Fire & Forget® FAQ
Fire & Forget has many features, and we recommend watching the webinar which will help answer most questions you may have. Click here to watch the Fire & Forget Video Webinar.
When does the budget reset occur?
- If enabled, the budget reset occurs every morning at 1:30 AM EST. Click here to read more about Budget Reset.
What causes the budget increase?
- Budget increase occurs when the campaigns has spent at least 50% of the budget and is meeting profit margin goals. Click here to read more about Budget Increase.
What happens when a campaign reaches Slow Amount?
- If Slow Amount is met, the campaign CPC is set to the Lowest Bid. All site bids are removed and sites will operate at the campaign CPC. No other optimization will occur until the campaign has revenue come in to reduce the current profit to below the Slow Amount value. Click here for more information on Slow Amount.
What happens when a campaign reaches Stop Amount?
- If Stop Amount is met, the campaign will then be paused until the start of the following day or until the campaign has a conversion and the total profit is below the Stop Amount value. Click here for more information on Stop Amount.
If a campaign is in Day Parting, what happens if the campaign then reaches Slow Amount?
- The Slow Amount setting will override Day Parting and set the CPC to the Lowest Bid. For any questions about the the steps Fire & Forget takes, check out our flow documentation by clicking here.
What happens when Slow Amount is active on a campaign and the campaign is supposed to start Day Parting?
- The CPC will remain at the Lowest Bid until the campaign is no longer at Slow Amount. The CPC will then be set to the Day Parting CPC if the campaign is still within the Day Parting time frame.
How does the Sample Size setting work? Why are optimizations occurring if my campaign has less than the Sample Size value for ‘Today’?
- Before performing optimizations, Maximus will check to see if the campaign has reached the number of clicks for Sample Size based on the Look Back Days selected. Click here to learn more about Sample Size.
There are two rules, Sample Size (Campaigns) and Sample Size (Sites), are these rules dependent or independent of one another?
- The Campaign Sample Size is independent from the Site Sample Size. If the site Sample Size is set to a lower number than the campaign Sample Size, site optimizations will occur if sites have met the sample size.
What happens during Desired Click Pacing?
- Maximus checks whether the campaign has received a certain amount of clicks in a specific time frame. If this goal is not met, Maximus will increase the campaign CPC by 10% during each optimization run until either the volume goal has been met or the campaign CPC is at the Highest Bid. Click here to learn more about Desired Click Pacing.
How is the Acceptable Profit calculated?
- Maximus will adjust the campaign CPC based on the EPC and the user defined margin set. Click here to learn more about the Acceptable Profit.
How does EPC Site Blocking work with the site optimizations?
- EPC Site Blocking will not occur until after a site has reached the Site Sample Size amount. Once Site Sample Size is met, Maximus will check if the Site EPC is below the EPC value set. Maximus will block the site if the Site EPC is below the Site Block EPC value. Click here to learn more about EPC Site Blocking. This feature is only available to Outbrain campaigns.
What should I set the campaign Sample Size to?
- Sample Size should be set to a number that best represents reliable data you can sample to determine how well a campaign is performing. This depends on what you're comfortable using. If you need advice on campaigns your Customer Success Manager can help you understand and utilize Sample Size.
Do I turn on Fire and Forget as soon as a campaign is created?
- You can enable Fire and Forget during campaign creation but it will not go into effect until the Sample Sizes are met. For more information on Fire and Forget check out the Flow Documentation.
Why is my campaign at Lowest Bid?
- A campaign is set to the Lowest Bid when Slow Amount is met. A campaign can also be at Lowest Bid if Acceptable Profit is in effect and the value is below the Lowest Bid (i.e. if EPC is $0.00 when this happens).
What should I set the CPC at the start of a campaign?
- The CPC for your campaign should be set to an amount you think the campaign should bid at.
What should I set Lowest & Highest Bid to?
- Lowest Bid and Highest Bid are used as the limits when performing Fire & Forget optimizations. Values will not be set lower than the Lowest Bid or higher than the Highest Bid.
- Lowest Bid should be set to the lowest possible value you believe your campaign can operate at without having a drop off in traffic. Click here to learn more about the Lowest Bid.
- Highest Bid should be set the to highest possible value you believe your campaign can operate at without having a drop off in traffic. Click here to learn more about the Highest Bid.
